• Pablo Montero's Arctic Surf Project

Billabong rider Pablo Montero was recently on trip to defy the elements in the Lofoten Islands, Norway. Searching for adventure and empty line ups.

Here is what he had to say about it.

"This is a trip to the Arctic in search of waves, adventure and incredible landscapes in one of the coldest places in Europe.
I want to know what it means to surf in the Arctic, a place with such harsh conditions that will test my capacities both inside and outside the water. There are below-zero temperatures, high winds and water almost frozen. This is a great experience and I want to show how far you can go when you feel passion for what you do.
The specific location is the Lofoten Islands, an archipelago in northern Norway, right inside the Arctic Circle.
The trip has a duration of one week. I chose this dates because March is the month with the most stable swell and when the ground is still covered by snow, which reflected in the pictures and the video, will give a greater visual perspective of the conditions that I am in.
The Lofoten Islands emerge in the middle of the turbulent waters of the Norwegian Sea just inside the Arctic Circle. This unique community enclosed by wild nature offers an uninterrupted landscape of majestic mountains, deep fjords and long beaches perfect for surfing.
Lofoten is situated between the parallels 67 and 68 of north latitude, in the Nord-Norge region, a place where the cold, the storms, the landscape, the northern lights and the beaches with perfect waves unite in harmony in an idyllic arctic setting."
