Dave Rastovich Barrelled By Hurricane Sandy
St Augustine is USA's oldest town. In 1565 Spanish explorer Admiral Pedro Menéndez de Avilés made landfall at a sheltered sandy river in what is now known as Northern Florida, and as it was the religious feast day of Saint Augustine of Hippo, that is the name he gave the location for his small naval fort.
Little did ol' Pedro know that nearly 450 years later Australian Dave Rastovich would take advantage of a giant superstorm hurricane named Sandy that was blanketing the north of the land to lock into a series of tasty warm water tubes at this very spot. Wonder what he would have called the township if he had have known? "Rastaville" has a nice ring to it, don't you think?
