The 13th Annual Steel Pier Classic presented by Billabong went down this past weekend in Virginia Beach. The event kicked off with the Billabong Gromfest, where 120 local kids got to surf. Every young surfer received a Billabong rash guard and surf medal, and was a part of the huge product giveaway. Each day there were athlete signings, tons of nightlife happenings and more going on!

For the entire weekend and the pro division heats the waves stayed in the waist high zone, which was all that the East Coast’s finest needed to rip their way through heats. After a couple of days of great surfing the event director and athletes rallied together and decided to run the finals on Monday in some better surf. When Monday aka Memorial Day came around it was down to Virginia Beach's Michael Dunphy, Billabong riders Rob Kelly and Cody Thompson, as well as East Coast legend and New Smyrna Beach's Aaron "Gorkin" Cormican. In the end, it was the youngster Dunphy taking the win and the 4k check home. It was another amazing Memorial Day weekend at the Steel Pier Classic in Virginia Beach and we're already excited and planning for next year!
