Billabong Pro Tahiti 2014 Day One, A hard Day at the office
Big scores and big barrels for the opening day at the Billabong Pro Tahiti 2014. The swell was on the way to hit Tahiti, the contest was on standby the first couple days but as soon as the swell hit Teahupoo on Monday the 18th of August the contest was ON with solid 8 to 10 feet waves, glassy conditions and stoked riders.
During the ASP Dawn Patrol morning show on Sunday on, ASP channel reporter Peter Mel was talking about fear surrounding the spot and the waves at Teahupoo when it's massive. Even the top pro surfers on tour are not always sleeping very well when they're going to be surfing big Teahupoo.
The first heat of the day started well with Slater posting big barrels and big scores straight away. Michel Bourez was surfing at home and was in good form, scored a big tube to go on thru to Round 3 of the event but the very first 1O of the day goes to Nathan Hedge "the warrior". Nathan was qualified thru the trials and he's on a mission at Teahupoo, his favorite wave. Taumata Puhetini - the trials winner - hit the reef on a massive wipe out during his heat against Joel parkinson and is unfortunately out of the contest.
The forecast looks very promising all week and the waves will keep pumping and shots coming! Stay tuned for more action from The Billabong Pro Tahiti, the most exciting surf contest on the planet.
