Bathing Ritual! Healing Baths for sunburns
We all know, sunburns aren’t fun, nor is it ever a good idea to be in the elements or under the sun without proper SPF protection, however sometimes even with the right protection we get a little more color than we were counting on…
Besides the sensitivity and hurt a sunburn can cause (not to mention the redness and swelling), it also can cause dehydration (so drink lots of water!). To help soothe the pain and unlock the heat and begin to reduce the swelling and hopefully help you heal swift, we’ve put together a simple bath recipe that you can easily recreate at home!
Even if you’re not overly sunkissed, this bath may become your new ritual for its natural healing ways. Not a bather? Well, you may become one…
What you need:
- Powdered milk
- Baking soda
- Essential oils of your choosing
- preferably lavender / we also went for dried lavender
- Grapefruit + Lemon
- Lukewarm water (this is key)
Dried milk benefits: soothing for dried skin. Rich in vitamins and minerals. The other very cool thing about milk baths is their ability to help reduce the heat you’re feeling.
Baking Soda: An excellent source to balance the pH levels of your body.
Lemons: can help cool the burn while promoting the healing of the skin. It’s packed with Vitamin C. Acts as a disinfectant.
Dried Lavender: natural remedy to reduce tension and pain, including redness. Also acts as a disinfectant and can help speed up the healing process. Plus, who doesn’t like the smell of lavender.
Mix this all together and soak yourself in lukewarm water for at least 30 minutes. Sans towel is also the next best bet – air drying will be most effective to allowing your skin to fully hydrate and absorb vital nutrients. Relax and rejuvenate….
