Billabong Girls Start Strong In 09
The Billabong girl’s team are having a great start to the year off the back of strong performances and great results at the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach last week.
Silvana Lima celebrated her maiden world tour victory by defeating current world champion Stephanie Gilmore in the 35 min final last winning with a 9.17 and 8.17. Silvana now sits comfortably in second place on the ASP Women's World Tour ratings.
Paige Hareb met Stephanie Gilmore in the quarters for their second match up of the year. Paige began with a solid score and lead for most of the heat but came unstuck in the dying minutes as the current World Champ came back strong unfortunately eliminating Paige from the event. Paige has had an amazing start to her World Championship Tour campaign, after placing 3rd on the Gold Coast for the Roxy Pro and 5th at Bells Beach for the Rip Curl Pro. Paige is currently rated 3rd on the ASP Women's World Tour ratings.
Bec Woods met fellow team mate Silvana Lima in the quarters where it was the eventual event winner getting the better of the exchange and eliminating Bec to finish 5th at the event.
Earlier in the week, Western Australian junior charger, Felicity Palmateer took out the Rip Curl Gromsearch National Final at Bells Beach with newest member on the girls team, Ellie-Jean Coffey placing second, qualifying both girls into the Rip Curl Gromsearch international final. The final saw Ellie-Jean take second and Felicity place third.
The Billabong girls are on fire and look to keep posting great results as the year progresses.
Congrats girls from your Billabong family.
