Billabong Pro Tahiti 2014, Final Day, more pictures
Final day at the Billabong Pro Tahiti… No pain. No glory.
The massive south swell was there early this morning for the final day at Teauhpoo. It's big and pefect. It was really close in the end between john John Florence, Kelly Slater and Gabriel Medina, every wave was a battle in the nine points range.
In a very tight final Gabriel Medina ended on top and showed his ability to surf heavy conditions as well as the usual spacialists at Chopes. Kelly Slater showed how confortable a surfer he is at Teahupoo with his amazing backside skills. He’s now rating No2 on the WCT. The race is on with only 3 contests left. John John Florence lost in the semi finals but was nonetheless very impressive during the whole the contest being cofortable and experienced in heavy conditions.
Lots of people in the Teahupoo pass and many Tahitians people came to support local hero Michel Bourez. Michel lost just before the quarter finals but is ranked third on the WCT and still has a chance to be the next world champion.
Brazil might have lost the soccer World Cup this year but they might get a surfing world champ with Gabriel Medina who could be the very first Brazilian surfer to be world champion.
Next contest stop will be in California, USA at Lower Trestle.
