Billabong Team Claims Multiple National Titles

Victories for the Billabong Team during the US Open of Surfing, Huntington Beach.

With fun waves on offer all week, the south side of the Huntington Beach Pier was the zone to be for all of the top amateur surfers around the nation. Our team consisted of Seth Moniz, Cobi Gittner, Loa Ng, Josh Burke, Eithan Osborne, Finn McGill, Brodi Sale, Sammy Gray, Tommy Coleman, Cole McCaffray and Laird Meyers. Coach Rainos Hayes and Micah Byrne were on the beach from sun up to sun down running through strategy with the kids, giving advice, direction and rooting them on.

Early on in the week Seth Moniz took top honors with the Explorer Junior's title. Not to be outdone was Josh Burke who finished right behind and made the best of the less than excellent conditions by posting some of the highest heat totals of the whole Explorer division. Tommy Coleman made the finals of Explorer Menehunes and young Cole McCaffray made the final of the Super Mini Grom's division.

In the Open Division the surfing level of everyone on the team remained extremely high. When finals day came around the waves picked up, the sun came out and three of our surfers had found themselves slotted into the finals. Seth Moniz in Open Men's; Eithan Osborne in Open Juniors; and Brodi Sale in the Open Boys final. For Brodi, his final saw him sitting solidly in second the whole heat, and in the dying minutes he pulled out a 6.33 that hoisted him into first and gave him the Open Boys win. Eithan Osborne trailed most of the way during his four man final, but was able to come from behind with a lip tail slide that gave him the nod and rocketed him into first for his first ever national title and the Open Juniors win.

Seth Moniz went blow for blow with Mickey Clarke during the whole Open Men's final and was able to squeak out the victory and take home both Open Men's and Explorer Men's NSSA National titles. He joined his older brother Josh, who won last year's Open Men's title, with his name now on the Open Men's title trophy. It was a more than fitting way to cap off his NSSA career and we can't wait to see Seth swiftly progress into the big leagues. Congrats to all of our surfers and we'll see everyone next year!
