Frederico Morais wins Martinique Surf Pro

Frederico Morais has won the Martinique Surf Pro, a Qualifying Series 3000 event in the French West Indies.

Frederico’s win netted him 3000 ratings points and rocketed him 134 places up to 13th on the WSL qualifying series rankings and sees him closer to his ultimate goal of making the Championship Tour for 2017.

“I had an incredible time over here in Martinique,” Morais said after the final. “Everyone is super friendly, I had great waves throughout the whole week and I want to thank everyone for the amazing support.”

The final was held in great 4-5 foot waves at the righthand reef break at Basse Point. Morais had been the form surfer in the Caribbean all week, securing the highest heat total of the contest in his quarterfinal and then dominating the final over his good mate Gonzalo Zubizarreta with a score of 16.66.

“A win is always great for your confidence and a great pay off for all the hard work we’ve been doing,” said Morais. “Now I’m looking forward to the bigger six star events and to keep the ball rolling. Right now, life is good.”
