Josh Moniz Wins Inaugural Martinique Pro

Maui’s Joshua Moniz tops the podium at the first-ever Martinique Surf Pro, Basse-Pointe.

Josh Moniz has backed up a Pipe Pro Junior victory from just a month ago with a huge win in at the Martinique Pro in the Caribbean on Saturday. Josh surfed the whole eventful with tactful talent, progressing through each heat until hitting the final where he further caught fire. In the final Josh nailed a 9.07 for a series of powerful turns and then backed it up with an 8.87 to take the win.

"I was so nervous going into that heat, I knew to win it I'd have to get big scores," Moniz said. "I'm so stoked, this is my first QS win. Coming off another win in a Junior in Hawaii I had a lot of confidence and I'm on kind of a little roll so hopefully I can keep it going."

With his first QS win now under his belt and an extremely successful start to the 2015 QS/Juniors season, the sky is the limit for this 18-year-old Hawaiian. Congrats to Josh and the rest of the team for their great results in Martinique! Now, bring on Lowers!
