Shane Dorian's 2016 Keiki Classic
Kona celebrated its 21st Annual Keiki Classic at Banyans hosted by Shane Dorian.
“The talent level this year stood out a lot. The kids were so much better compared to last year. Even more impressive is the kids level of stoke and appreciation. The kids really do look forward to this event all year, so I'm stoked we get to do this every year!” – Shane Dorian
This year, over 50 kids entered, and each had to bring at least 2 cans of food, and must have proof of a GPA of 2.25 to be accepted. This is a special event that the entire community of Kona comes to support, with the best surfers coming from all over the Hawaiian islands
The groms were stoked to get surprise visits from a huge list of pro surfers, and it got better when they pust on an expression session for the kids to watch. This year’s pro guests included Billabong’s Josh Moniz, Seth Moniz, and Griffin Colapinto, as well as Albee Layer, Matt Meola, Torrey Meister, CJ Kanuha, Billy Kemper, Jamie O’Brien and of course his buddy Poopsie that was a kid favorite.
Shane has been doing this event to give back to the community since he was 23, and Billabong is honored to support Shane Dorian in this event over the years. His level of commitment to the Kona community and local groms adds to why he is a favorite surfer to multiple generations. We look forward to supporting this event for years to come!
